NEC chooses Audience Systems
One of the UK’s best-known venues, the National Exhibition Centre, is to totally refurbish its entertainment venue with the help of Audience Systems’ retractable platforms.
The refit is designed to give the LG Arena, part of the NEC complex, the additional capacity and flexibility which a modern event-driven venue needs. The front rows of tiering around the arena bowl will be replaced with retractable platforms, some sections of which will be completely removable. This will allow the Facilities Managers to vary the capacity, or create “vomitories” – grand entranceways for events such as the Horse of the Year Show and Strictly Come Dancing Live.
At the South end of the Arena, a large new retractable bank will extend across the arena floor for all-seated events – giving those towards the back of the arena a much-improved view. The system uses Audience Systems’ “double row depth” design, which allows twice the capacity within a limited height space by accommodating two rows of seating on each platform.
The contract, worth in excess of three quarters of a million pounds, is further good news for Audience Systems, who already have a strong order book for the 2009/10 year.
